Leading And Motivating Employees

When you start working in a company the first thing that you want to see is how the managers treat their employees to make them be more productive. If the managers do not make any effort to help their employees to be successful in their job the employees are going to start feeling lazy and they may not put any effort to the work they are completing. To keep good employees in a company the managers should know how to lead and motivate them in that way the work is done on time and with better quality.

Leadership is the process of motivating others to work to meet specific objectives. Leading is also one of the key aspects of a manager's job. If the manager does not know how to lead his or her employees he or she will not be successful to motivate them.

Motivation is the set of forces that cause people to behave in certain ways. Since motivation influences productivity, managers need to understand what motivates employees to reach a better performance in their job. It is not easy to increase employees' motivation because employees respond in different ways to their jobs and organization's practices. The managers' goal is to influence the factors that motivate their employees to a higher level of productivity. Factors that affect work motivation include individual differences, job characteristics, and organizational practices. Individual differences are the personal needs, values, attitudes, interests, and abilities that people bring to their job. Organizational practices are the rules, human resources policies, managerial practices, and rewards systems of an organization. Supervisors must consider how these factors interact to affect employees' job performance. For example when employees receive things as pay, benefits, and promotion opportunities they have a high morale toward their workplace and the supervisors they seem motivated because they perceive that their needs are being met by their jobs. One of the things that the managers can do to motivate their employees when they are absent many times is to tell them that if they have perfect attendance they will get a bonus. This will encourage them to show up every day and will beneficiate not only the company but also the employees.

Most of the people who have a job they want to be recognize for all the jobs well done that they perform to know that they are important to the company and to their managers. As a result of this many methods of employee motivation have been developed. The study of work motivation has focused on the supervisor as well as on the employee. Motivation theories are important to supervisors when they are attempting to be good leaders. For example the Two-Factor Theory by Frederick Herzberg holds that job satisfaction depends on two types of factors hygiene, such as working conditions, and motivation, such as the recognition for a job well done. For example, workers will be dissatisfied if they believe that they have poor working conditions especially if they do not have a place where they can move freely to perform their task or a place to eat their food during their brakes. The work place has to be at least free of any hazard that can hurt the employee or affect the work that the employee is performing.

Sometimes what maintain the employees motivated is not only the money that they are getting pay or even the bonuses that they get every time that they do something well, sometimes they are also looking for a place where they can have flexible schedules because they have other things to do. For example if the employees have children they want to spend more time with them instead of being all day at work. The flexible schedules that the companies have offer more or less hours to the employee. They also can split a position and responsibilities with two or more people, or even telecommute. Nowadays more companies offer more ways for their employees to spend more time with the family because they know that for most of the people sometimes are more important their relatives than their job.

Some people work for love; others work for personal fulfillment. Others like to accomplish goals and feel as if they are contributing to something larger than themselves, something important. Some people have personal missions that they want to accomplish through work. Others truly love what they do or the clients they serve. Other people like to fill their time with activity. It does not matter what are their reasons to be working because if all the things that they expect from their job are not fulfill they will not accomplish their goals which I think that if the managers are good leaders they will help employees to be successful in everything they are doing, even if the reason why they working are not the same.
