In order to get motivated to stop a drug abuse problem, the first thing to focus on is that you've gotten attached to drugs and it's not just something you can do when you feel like it. The problem is that you find it hard to function without the drugs. They are what appears to help you manage the day and cope. In fact, these crutches aren't your friend but what is weakening to your system.
Be honest with yourself and see how you cope daily. If a number of people have recently asked you about your drug habits or if you have a problem, that should also help you to see that your drug use has become excessive.
Be true to yourself and face things. It's okay to say you feel overwhelmed and only feel good when taking drugs to relieve the stressors. But also look at how this process makes you feel. Do you find that you are losing parts of each day due to needing to get high? Are you living with guilt and with a sense that you hide things from people? Do you know that you've lost your sharpness, focus and powers of mind to a certain extent?
Does each day require some compensation to deal with the boss, family, jealous feelings or unresolved thought patterns? What situations and thoughts proceed the use of smoking or taking pain pills? Each day do you tell yourself that this is the last day you'll indulge? If so, really make this the last day and take the resolve to live the full life you deserve.
